The Tongue

Our church has an activity during Wednesday night service called TeamKids. It's a great time that I really enjoy being with the kids. Their ages range from K to 5th grade, and it is a chance for me to get to know the children better and also a chance to teach some key truths. Tonight we talked about the tongue. James 1:26 talks about the ability to bridle the tongue, and if you can't your religion is worthless. Worthless babble, gossip, words that tear one another down, ridicule, slander are all ways that we use our tongue to dishonor God. The kids and I had a good time finding ways to use words that would honor God. Encouraging words, words that build one another up, the truth, telling others about Jesus are all ways that we can honor God with the use of our tongues. The truth is, I enjoy TeamKids because it helps me get back to the basics and God uses this time to help me grow more like Him by reminding me of the little things that bring glory and honor to Him....the tongue indeed is a little thing, but using it in the wrong way can destroy families, churches, and one another.
