A Quiet Place

One of the best pieces of advice I received when I was a young believer was to retreat to a quiet place and get alone with God. I would pack up my bible, my scripture review cards, notebook and pen and be on my way to a place where I could read and pray for most of the day. I would return refreshed and energized ready for whatever. Over the years I got away from being able to do that because of commitments, family, and laziness, but yesterday was different. I packed up my stuff, got in the car and headed for the beach. Our beach on Camp Lejeune is desolate in the winter. Hardly anybody was on the beach. The air was crisp, and the beach was flat to walk on. It was awesome. After walking for about an hour, I returned to where a picnic bench was located and I opened my bible and spent some much needed time alone with God. Now I can understand through the hustle and bustle of ministry and being pulled in many different directions why Jesus would find a quiet place to be alone. Matt 14:23 Sitting there on the bench watching the waves crash on the shore, and the seagulls flying by I could see God's creation and just for a little while the hustle and bustle of everyday life didn't seem to matter.
